To Watch in 2012: BadBadNotGood

Jazz Soul

I’m starting to seriously dig these guys called BadBadNotGood, a three piece band from Toronto that specialize in jazz cover versions of rap classics. That sort of thing has been done you’ll argue, yes you’re right. There have been a bunch of jazz and soul re-visions of hip-hop classics.

But there’s something a bit more exciting about these guys. It may be the fact that they’re all pretty young and can all play their asses off. Sadly it’s quite unusual nowadays to hear such good young musicians who clearly have spent more time practising their craft than building their twitter cred. I played “Hard in the paint” in my last MIMS Show and these guys are starting to seriously blow up, they have been invited to play at Gilles Peterson‘s “Worldwide Awards” event.
