Forgotten Treasures

Basil Kirchin “Silicon Chip” (1979)

Eclectic

via Piccadilly Records: Back in the late 1970s, Basil Kirchin was in Hull, working on numerous projects, documentary scores and strange musical concepts.

Silicon Chip is a rare surviving and most unusual work from the period, an unreleased (until now via Trunk Records) slice of jumping, plugged-in perfection presciently celebrating the dawn of the computer-based industrial revolution. The B side – Silicon Chips – is a set of quick electro blasts and logos, possibly conceived and written for library usage, but we may never know.

What we do know is that this incredible 7” is now out, on vinyl and ready for some heavyweight nostalgic digital action. The release nicely coincides with Hull City Of Culture in 2017, which features a Basil Kirchin Weekender in February.

The lineup for Silicon Chip is as follows: Vocals: Gary Burroughs, Guitar and Keyboards: Danny Wood, Drums: Dane Morrell, Bass: Bernie Dolman. Music was engineered by Roy Neave.

Recorded at Fairview Studios, Hull, 1979

Yellow 7″ available only through Trunk Records
