Future Classic: Esperanza Spalding “Inútil Paisagem”

Jazz Soul

I just got reminded by my friend Jasmine De La Paz of how absolutely dope Esperanza Spalding is. When I interviewed Jose James two years ago he was telling about how talented Spalding is. Ohhh, and by the way, for anyone in Montreal she will be playing this summer at the festival (details)!

Esperanza Spalding is much more than a smooth operator. She’s got a dreamy voice that can linger in your ears long after your headphones come off. Her bass playing skills are beyond superb for a 23-year-old and we can’t get over her. Watch her perform ‘Inútil Paisagem’ in Portuguese and be awed by her raw talent. In 2011, she won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 53rd Grammy Awards, making her the first jazz artist to win the award
