Forgotten Treasure: Millie “My Boy Lollipop” (1964)

Again, not exactly a totally forgotten treasure but I just couldn’t resist sharing the live version of Millie’s “My Boy Lollipop”, one of my favorite early ska records and one of the first reggae hits outside of Jamaica. The song is a cover from a 1956 song from Barbie Gaye and was one of the first ska (or blue beat as they called it in the UK) to be a top 10 in both the US and the UK.

The live performance is great in a really clumsy and awkward way. … Also, make you sure you watch this BBC Documentary on the history of reggae in the UK, an absolute must watch for all reggae fans.
