Forgotten Treasure: Scottie Deep Presents Daddy’s Mood “About You” (1994)

House / Techno

House music runs deep in the Kinchen Family. Mark “MK” Kinchen doesn’t needs no introduction. His lesser known brother Scott Kinchen deserves to be rediscover again. Working under different aliases, the most common one being Scottie Deep, he released several outstanding tracks on classics labels such as Strictly Rhythm, 430 West, Aztonk, Thumpin and Henry Street amongst others.

I still clearly remember the first time I heard “About You” back in march 1994. I was entering Musique Service, a Montreal record store at the time, and Eddie Lewis (of Noir et Blanc fame) was playing that song. I was shaken. It instantly became one of my all time favorite house track. This is the sound of paradise right there. It could be the definition itself of the perfect house track: stomping beat, skippy vocal samples and sweeter than sweet keys and bassline.

I’ve been playing this non stop since 1994 and I still love it as much as the first time I heard it. I was lucky enough to pick up two copies at that time. Price have been jumping crazily for this release since Bicep played it in their Boiler Room session. If you see a copy of this under 20$, jump on it! (Link to the Discogs Release page)
