Forgotten Treasure: Tuff Jam “Feel My Love” (1997)
Holy gariiidge classic! This track is from ’97 a few years before I started playing UK Garage myself. Tuff Jam (Matt “Jam” Lamont and Karl “Tuff Enuff” Brown) were two of the most important people in the first 10 years of history in UKG. I have a promo version of this record which was given to me by good friend Francois (aka Dr. Love). One of my most cherished pieces of wax!
We were having a really good conversation regarding the state, evolution and origins of the whole Dubstep movement (discussion here). Anyyywhoo, I was stating the fact that UK Garage and that whole family tree of styles (Dusbtep, 2step) – although it’s influenced by Drum & Bass, Jungle – was directly created from US Garage House…. so yes, House!
