I will never forget the fateful night my friends Bongiovanni, Sparkz and Compton Chic (Booty Based Mob) started their first weekly residency “Booty Bakery”, an MTL soiree devoted to rump-shaking tunes (or as they would call it “music for dem asses”). It was a really warm evening and the crew brought buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken into the bar/club to christen the event. Fittingly enough, the whole place smelled like…well…you know…and now over a year later, they are still stinking up the joint with tons of sweet bookings (Doc Daneeka, Full Crate, DJ Sliink) and sweaty nights to boast for.
In celebration of all this success, the name-your-price compilation Booty Based Mob Vol. 1 came out last week highlighting a butt-load of Montreal talent and bootyful contributions from internationally-known guests like Ryan Hemsworth and DJ K Millz. There are a total of 17 tracks on the album spanning styles such as Juke, Bmore, Bass, Funky, Trap, etc. which create a fair representation of the aforementioned parties (only thing which might be missing is Dancehall, but maybe that will be on Vol. 2).
Personal favorites include High-Klassified’s super-solid Drama Trap, Tommy Kruise nailing some fine footwork on Hypnotize and Bongiovanni dropping sick stuttering beats with Zmell Gud. Download here: http://bootybakery.bandcamp.com/album/booty-based-mob-volume-one
Also local readers should note that the next Booty Bakery event is on Saturday with none other than acid-house lord DJ Pierre!! See you there
