Future Classic: Hugo LX “The Diary/The Sanctuary” (Balance Records)

House / Techno

Parisian Hugo Lascoux is often associated with the new wave of talented French House music producers. However, few know that it’s with jazzy & funky hip-hop that Hugo LX started his music career. He released 3 EP’s and one album on Favourite Records as part of the Funk League group. Those influences are still extremely present in the young producer’s electronic music.

Since stepping into his new solo project, the man has been extremely busy, racking up 5 EP’s in one year along with appearances on compilation projects for Faces and My Love Is Underground Records. To close out a spectacular 2016, Hugo LX presents his debut album courtesy of Balance Recordings.

House music has always been a genre that is more conducive to singles &  EP’s more than a full length album, but The Diary/The Sanctuary LP succeeds where most house music albums attempts usually fall short. 9 well-crafted tracks and interludes that range from hip-hop to classic deep house to acid, dub & jazz elements.

As a simple reference point, the closest comparison I could make would be the work of the great Canadian House producer Nick Holder.
