Well well! 2012 is starting off nicely on the soulful side of things! After new jams from Robert Glasper and Michael Kiwanuka here is a great jazzy and soulful track from someone we didn’t hear from in a while… miss Jean Grae!
Life for female MC’s in the hip-hop world has never been easy, and Jean Grae’s story is no different. Artists like M.I.A, Santigold and recently Azealia Banks all get major love from media and hipsters. Not to say that they’re not good artists, because they are. But I think that female have a really tough time breaking out when it’s in “traditional” still very male-driven hip-hop. It’s a shame because I really love MC’s like Bahamadia and Jean Grae and even MC Lyte back in the day!
