Future Classic: Laura Groves “Committed Language”

People who don’t know us often ask me what type of genres we cover. I generally answer that’s it’s very broad both in terms of past/present but also in genres which sort of goes anywhere from jazz, soul, hip-hop to very adventurous electronic music. I generally stay that it stops at indie rock, metal, country and more top 40 stuff.

But every now and then it’s fun to stretch the range of what we cover if we happen to just fall on a fantastic record that jumps out from the “to-listen” pile.

Maybe it’s because Spring is in the air, but I’m really loving Laura Groves’ magical 4 track EP called “Commited Language” out now on Deek Records. I wouldn’t know exactly what to file it under though: indie folk pop? Intelligent Pop? Is that a thing? Isn’t that a complete contradiction? Either way, its been on repeat for 48 hours!

I’m not a specialist at all in this type of sound so i’m not going to try and over-analyse it, but I do love the EP from uber-talented Laura Groves who signs, produces, plays keyboards and guitar. After a few listens and digging into the liner notes I think I might have discovered why there’s a little something that drew me in… the album is co-produced and mixed by Bullion, one of my favorite producers of the past 10 years.
