Future Classic: Ray Foxx “Butterflies” (Wookie Remix)

UK Garage / Grime / 2step / Dubstep

There is a resurgence of UKG vets brewing across the pond. A very exciting prospect for anyone passionate about the legacy they have left behind, and are still creating. Among the legends making waves is “producer stroke artist stroke remixer and odd jobs man” Wookie, who actually hasn’t released a proper 12” since 2008. In the past 5 years he has added DJ to that list, and has been smashing gigs around London, recently including the revered Fabric, for which he released a highly recommended promo mix. (link Dan’s write up). He also has a single release scheduled sometime in 2012, and is working on a new album for next year.

To tide us over, the honorable Mr. Chue has bestowed a beautiful rework upon us, one containing his signature bass lines and vocal swing. A re-conception of Ray Foxx’s “Butterflies”, Wookie has made this one his own. Maintaining Foxx’s tip-toeing melodies and giving the vocals an extra bit of swagger, there is an almost perfect balance of light and dark in the rework, another signature of the man. Irresistible tings!
