Future Classic: Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics “The Agenda”

Soul

I wanted to wait for our new MIMS Radio Show to come out to unleash this one but it’s such a beautiful song that I had to share it now. It’ll make your day that much better.

Atlanta based Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics released their LP titled “It’s About Time” in September 2012 (Gemco Records) and although my friend Kathleen sent it to me then, I totally slept on it and it took me about 6 months to wake the hell up. Ruby Velle and her group are another act in this huge revival of vintage soul à la Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, Menahan Street Band and so on.

“Agenda” is the first song we’ve ever heard from the group and we didn’t take the time to listen to the rest of the record before calling “The Agenda” a Future Classic… But we’re going to listen to the rest of the record right now! So, if you like that gritty soulful soul that labels like Truth & Soul, Daptone, Ubiquity have been pushing then this is an absolute no brainer. In fact, we strongly suggest you buy the damn record or go see them live!
