Hip Hop Karaoke Montreal – Best of Videos (so far)

To mark the fifth edition of the now unmissable “Hip Hop Karaoke” night in Montreal I asked one of the guys behind the magic and one of my good homies, Morgan, to pick some of his favorite performances in the first four great events. Here are Morgan’s favorites, other than his own dope rendition of “Shutterbug”! (information on HHK #5 is at the bottom of the post)

“Bombs over Bahgdad” (Outkast) by Dr. 80 & Deprisk

Maybe the best HHK performance to date. Apparently, these guys have been doing B.O.B at regular karaoke for years. But never to a crowd like this. They came and conquered.

“Monster” (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj) by Melanie Moore

If you can get passed the poor sound quality, this video will blow your mind. Melanie lives between Ottawa and Vancouver. She’s a seasoned vet of HHK Vancouver and she actually came all the way from Ottawa for our very first HHK in Montreal back in March. Now she has fans here. This video has almost 3,000 views. What?!

“Juicy” (Notorious B.I.G) by Sac Mac & Friends

This was awesome because the girl kinda looks like Bieber but she also kinda destroyed it with the hardest performance that night. She drops the n-bomb twice and fumbles at the beginning but after that, it’s pure magic. She’s a star. The stage help and the chorus take it to another level.

“Scenario” (A.T.C.Q) by Grey Heart & Crew

These homies have been supporting HHK since the start. They brought their A-game on this one and the crowd went bananas. “Watch / As I combine all the juice from the mind / Heel up, reel up, bring it back, come, rewind!”

“Cold rock a party” (MC Lyte) by Sharmy Cakes & Some Random Girl

These two DID cold rock the party, no doubt! It was only a matter of time until pros like this made it down to HHK. These girls are so good, it’s not even funny. They actually come close to sounding as good as the actual record to me. A+

“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme” (Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince) by SpleenZilla

My buddy Dean here aka SpleenZillaTron basically stole the show that night. Killed it. Bodies everywhere. Him and I talked about it in the weeks leading up to the party and kept getting excited about it. He was so ready. Good practice video for HHK starters.

“Protect Ya Neck” (Wu-Tang) by HHK Crew

Jean-Luc Noël, Hichem Merdassi, Mahdi Saoula, Colin Musoni, Aïsha Cariotte Vertus, Noémie Éclipse Ouimet Meloche, Kevin Célestin and Louis-Philippe Célestin bum rushed the stage with this classic Wu-Tang joint.
