How Social is Social Media?
I was listening to a podcast by Online Marketing Guru Mitch Joel and he was going into a very interesting rant about Social Media and how social is really is.
You should check it out for yourself but basically it was all about taking a second look at sites and applications like Twitter, Facebook, Blip, Last.fm, and so on and stopping to think how much conversation there really is on those so called social media platforms. The whole basis of calling a media “social” is because of the interaction between people. So when CNN, Ashton Kutcher and whoever have a Twitter feed, are being followed by thousands of people but only follow back 50 people, I totally agree with Mitch in saying that it feels more like pushing content down to people rather than collaborating with them.
So what’s my reason for pushing my content on all those platforms? Well obviously it’s about trying to build a bigger audience but my #1 concern is its quality and the depth. So… all that to say, I do love it when you leave comments on the site, on twitter or FB… that’s my payday!
