A Montreal native with West-African roots, Antoine started developing a love for records when his father passed his collection of French, African, Caribbean and Brazilian classics onto him. Ever since, the collector turned selector has spent countless hours in musky basements both here and abroad (Dakar, Lima, Paris, Quito, Rio) in the never-ending search for the perfect beat!

Future Classic: L33 “Keepin’ It Tight EP”

Modern Funk

Voyage Funktastique is slowly unravelling its plan for Global Funk domination as it continues to expose listeners to the best future funk gems from around the globe.

This time the Netherlands’ L33, hot off his DJKicks/DamFunk selection, drops his “Keepin’ It Tight EP” on the budding label for all funksters to enjoy. The crispiness of the former Soulection collaborator sounds and samples as well as the smooth synth layering add a level of complexity to a straight forward sound.

Songs like Eastside Funksta illustrate this as the slower pace vibes on the album are not only conducive to cruisin’ down the street but to let the drum programming breathe and the signature funk percussion shine. My favourite track is the energetic Victory which closes out the solid EP bringing more bounce through the contemplative melodic lines.

“Keepin’ It Tight” is a breath of fresh air in the field of Future Funk and another sureshot for Voyage Funktastique who has much more on the way in terms of releases. As long as Walla P & Cie keep exposing the variety and layers of the Funk Spectrum, loyal fans will keep growing in numbers!
