I was putting the finishing touches on my last podcast (#29) when I discovered a super dope beat called “Super Robot” from EXILE on the latest Beat Dimensions compilation. I was racking my brain to try to remember where the hell the sample was from. I knew it from a house track by BOOKA SHADE and M.A.N.D.Y (famous for the tech-house-electroish productions on the Get Physical label)…
Well, it turns out that the real reference behind the beat is a song by american weirdo-conceptual electronic artist LAURIE ANDERSON. So dope!!! I even found out that this song made it to #2 in the UK singles charts in 1981… it’s really surprising considering it’s a pretty weird and trippy track that definetly doesn’t have any crossover appeal.
