Damn, say it ain’t so! PAYZ PLAY, is apparently officially dead. The 4 man super group that rose from the death of ATACH TATUQ, one of the best Quebec hip-hop acts ever is pressing the stop button on the tape deck.
This news actually kinda saddens me because they are pretty much the only group that did the HipHop meets Electronic music correctly in Quebec. Don’t mean to hate but I am not a fan of Omnikron, Numero#, TTC (yeah i know theyre from France) at all… i’ll leave it at that. What PAYZ PLAY attemped to do is bring that futuristic (post boom-bap) hip-hop sound to the next level but also keep the texts, hooks and production VERY next level… not dumbing down to shitty hooks for 15 year old hipsters.
Play Play boys you should be proud, this project will stand the test of time and lots of these tracks will still sound dope in 10 years +… best of luck in the future!
