Onra & Lexis “Throw’Em Up 2” – All the Videos!

The second edition of the Throw Em’ Up mix is finally out and we’re really happy that people are loving it. Tons of people are discovering tracks they didn’t know and also falling back in love with a few classics too. We can only tell you that we put a lot of work into it and that it comes from the heart. We hope you take the mix on the road, the beach, after-party, etc…

So, like after the first edition of the Throw Em’ Up mix we wanted to post all the priceless videos in one place.

Throw Em’ Up 2The Mix

Charrise Arrington “Down With This”

“If you down with this. All you fellas throw your hands up” Yeah, that was the only way to start the 2nd volume of the Throw Em’ Up mix. Tons of great throw em’ up moments in this video. All the basics are covered: choreographies, shirtless dudes, silk shirts and so on.

Joe “All Or Nothing”

Love the shots with Joe singing in the club with the Bobby Brown-style headset. Definitely more of a “New Jack” clothing style but Joe makes up for it with the shots of him getting his portrait painted by a hot girl. Also major points for the white on white studio, classic.

Assorted Phlavors “Make Up Your Mind” feat. Big Daddy Kane

The two things I love about this video : 1) the fact that they rented a mansion for the video and clearly didn’t even bother putting some furniture in there 2) I really like the white dancer in the choreographies, clearly got cut from the Backstreet Boys or something… but for real this is classic mid-90’s gold and it starts strong right away with Big Daddy Kane in a cowboy hat.

Case ft. Mary J Blige & Foxy Brown “Touch Me, Tease Me”

Slick opening shot of the CASE, case (So clever). Apart from that, it’s really not the greatest video as usual for songs taken from soundtracks. Tons of useless shots from “Nutty Professor”.

Carl Henry “Crazy Love”

Really happy we could find a Throw Em Up track from Montreal! Major slept on joint from 1996. Bonus points for Carl’s skin tight shirt. Would be tough to pull off in the club these days.

Jason Weaver “Stay With Me”

One of our favorite videos of the bunch. You can really tell that Motown Records must have tried to make Jason Weaver the answer to LaFace’s signing of Usher. Well, let’s just say he’s wasn’t quite up to the challenge in terms of looks, moves and voice. But still, A++ on the substitute teacher scenario, definitely a fantasy for the 16 year old in all of us.

Jesse Powell “All I Need” (Dr. Freeze Remix)

By far the most low budget video of the bunch. Just a studio, 4 white pannels, 2 costume changes, 1 background girl. No club shots, no extras, no rented Beemers… still a dope track though.

Mona Lisa ft. Lost Boyz “Can’t Be Wasting My Time”

Another soundtrack song (Don’t Be A Menace…) but at least that one doesn’t have any shots of the move in it. Had a crush on Mona Lisa when I was about 13, those shots of her dancing in overalls…. hmmm.

Sa-Deuce “Don’t Waste My Time”

This is the video from which we took our cover image (0:27) and it might be the best of the bunch. Love the alternating shots of Sa-Deuce in the street with Timbs, extra large shirt and toque and the full on leather suit. Ladies in the street and freaks in the bedroom!

Vybe “Take It To The Front”

Is it just me or are tons of these shots exactly like the “Creep” video from TLC. Around 45 seconds into it all is forgiven because you get tons of perfect Throw Em Up crowd shots.

Jade “5-4-3-2-1”

Jade were mostly known for “Don’t Walk Away” which is more  of a New Jack track but we were happy to find a throw em’ up track from them. They’re pulling off major style in this video with the sexy Sports bras / tops, Braids and most importantly the underwear coming out of the pants.

Blacknuss “Dinah”

Before doing the research for Throw Em’ Up 2, I had heard “Dinah” before, it rang a bell but I had absolutely no idea they were from Sweden! My personal favorite track from the mix!

Joya “Gettin Off On You”

Joya is pulling some Dr. Jekkyl & Mr. Hyde in this video… Looking real good in the blond wig in some shots and then looking like Sisqo with sunglasses in the others.

Smooth “Summertime”

Smooth gotta taste from the Hip-Hop Bikers. That look never really took off for some reason…

Adina Howard “Freak Like Me”

In both mixes we definitely wanted to put at least 2-3 absolute classics. Seen the video and heard the track a million times but it just doesn’t get old.

Boyz II Mean ft. Treach, Craig Mack & Busta “Vibin”

Easily the most “street” moment in Boyz II Men’s career, you almost forget for half a second that they used to sign in matching bow ties. I love the Youtube screen cap on the video with everyone doing the Throw Em Up.

Whitehead Brothers “Forgot I Was a G”

We put the Easy Mo Bee remix of this on the mix but the original is aiight too. Serious anthem from the Whitehead Brothers, sons of  John Whitehead, who was one half of songwriting legendary duo McFadden & Whitehead.

Horace Brown “Things We Do For Love”

To cover all the R&B video themes you need at least one with the “shopping / i’ll buy you all kinds of shiny things” theme. Perfect track, perfect video from Horace Brown, a legend that is often overlooked.

Soul IV Real “Things We Do For Love”

We had “Candy Rain” on the first one so we had no choice but to put the other Soul IV Real classic. This one has tons of great throw em up moments in this video including at 1:26 and 1:51.

Eric Gable “Process of Elimination”

That Eric Gable was a good addition to this mix. Definitely slept-on, a jam that is right at the edge of the New Jack sound and Throw Em Up sound. Classic video with a Rhtyhm Nation kind of feel.

Gyrl “Play Another Slow Jam”

We wanted to finish the mixtape with two less clubby tracks, two slow ones to finish it nicely. Gyrl & H-Town seemed like the perfect combo, both tracks are like mirror images of each other. The boy version, and the GYYYRL version. Always loved the intro to the video with the girls’ names: Myoko, Paulette, Jamila… Apart from that you get two R&B classics: Basketball court shots and playing Dominoes shots.

H-Town “Knockin’ The Boots”

Another classic of course, perfect ending. We both hope that a few babies will be made from this mixtape…
