For some reason Timbaland doesn’t get as much respect as he should from all the hip-hop and R&B heads. When you ask anyone about him they’ll agree that he’s one of the best and most original producers but it seems that when heads list their favorites they seem to be mentioning people like Premier, the Neptunes, J Dilla, Kanye, Pete Rock etc… I just read a list that had Timbo at #31. Insane.
As much as I love all those guys too, I gotta give massive respect to Timbaland and leave a place for him in the top 10, no question. One of the biggest props you have to give him is that he didn’t rely (or very lightly) on samples for his amazing work with Missy, Aaliyah, Jay-Z and others. He created most of the drum programming, hooks, melodies from scratch!
