Montreal’s Dj VILIFY is best known for her in your face dubstep sets. But like any true music lover she has tons of other influences. she’s been known to drop jungle, drum n’ bass, breaks and even hip-hop in her sets. And no, i’m not talking about throwing the Dead Prez “Hip-Hop” acapella on top of a dubstep beat.

Last time I played at her night called BASS DRIVE – you might have heard of it, it’s an intimate weekly wednesday night (wink) – and she played the original version of “Warning” by Biggie. Major props for dropping something like that in front of a crowd that wants hard Dubstep. From that point on, I was sold! That is called working the angles…

So on that note, here are some of VILIFY’s favorite hip-hop tracks.

#1 Notorious B.I.G. – Warning

Notorious B.I.G – Warning

@DJ_Vilify: Ready to Die was the first piece of Hip Hop wax in my collection. The flow and delivery on this tune is unreal.

#2 Gangstarr – Above the Clouds

Gang Starr – Above the clouds

@DJ_Vilify: One of my favorite Primo beats ever. Impossible not to bump your heard to this one.

#3 Atmosphere – God Loves Ugly

@DJ_Vilify: I’m a sucker for a simple beat on the classical tip. This Atmosphere track kills that.

#4 Immortal Technique – Industrial Revolution

Immortal Technique – Industrial Revolution

@DJ_Vilify: An MC with a message is all too rare these days. So much respect for Immortal Technique. He’ll always be one of my favorites.

#5 Nas – It aint Hard To Tell

Nas – It Ain’t Hard To Tell

@DJ_Vilify: Half man half amazing. One of my favorite Nas tunes of all time.

#6 Tribe Called Quest – Electric Relaxation

Tribe Called Quest – Electric Relaxation

@DJ_Vilify: This one will always be fresh to death. Cannot wait to bump this one this summer.

#7 Pharcyde – Passin’ Me By

Pharcyde – Passin’ Me By

@DJ_Vilify: Bizzare Ride II is one of my favorite albums and has been hugely influential on my musical tastes.. who knows where I’d be without Pharcyde.
