Favorite Releases of the Week – October 16th

Here is our weekly recap of some of the noteworthy releases we checked out in the last few days. A bit of everything, as usual. A representation of what Music Is My Sanctuary is all about.

We focus on releases either available in vinyl, tape, CD or legal download.

Here are our favorite releases of the week. Support artists, support labels! Buy some Music!

Yes the Bad Neighbour LP is only only coming in 2 weeks. But since there are 6 tracks out of the 15 already available it’s safe to say its going to be a classic. Blu and MED on top of 100% beats by Madlib, and if you needed even more convincing guest spots by Anderson Paak, Dam Funk, Phonte and more…

Another fine reissue by the good folks at Athens of the North. This one features two tracks of late 60’s midwest soul music from the group known as “The US“, produced by Jackie Beavers.

In a year filled with reissue labels popping up everywhere, the folks at Music From Memory have probably been our favorites. With this 12″ they’ve unearthed yet another gem! This time from Michal Turtle who was a 22 year old (in 1983) and made this wonderful music for his parents’ South London home.

Ok, its only coming out in mid-November and we’ve only heard one track so far but damn! That first single from the brilliant collaboration project between the legend Bobby Caldwell and Jack Splash (ex-Plantlife) is quite something! This could be one of the best pop records of the year.

I love me some Principe Discos! The fresh label out of Portugal release their first material for the legendary Warp Records. 6 riddims that reside somewhere between UK Funky, Afro-Pop and Baile Funk.

Another solid 12″ from the great little label out of South London known as Rhythm Section. This one is more on the afro-latin tip, but highly effective on a dance floor I’m sure.

London’s Tenderlonious, owner of the wonderful little 22a music label, delivers a really solid 6 track EP for Yoruba. For lovers of dusty, woozy and slightly experimental beats. It releases early November but you can preview all the tracks.

Wonderful instrumental hip-hop record by Tokyo’s Bugseed. A great collection of jazzy samples and breaks, perfect for a lovely autumn walk in the park.

The new ARCA album is coming out at the end of November, but I can’t wait for the new LP by the young Venezuelan who is definitely one of the most original forces in experimental pop music. Definitely going to be perfect for those gloomy winter nights.

Here is one more release that’s perfect for autumn and winter. Addison Groove dusts off the Headhunter, his former dubstep pseudonym. I’m definitely not complaining
