Future Classic: Anderson .Paak “Malibu”

Hip-Hop Soul

Many of the most discerning music heads have been calling the Anderson .Paak (who also goes by Breezy Lovejoy) the next big thing. It seems the time has arrived for him to truly cross over and get that much deserved mainstream recognition.

2014 saw the release of his first studio album under his Anderson .Paak alias titled “Venice.” It was an upbeat modern r&b album with such an incredibly unique sound, mostly in terms of his distinctive voice. In 2015 we saw him collaborate with the likes of Dr. Dre and The Game- who both released fantastic albums, and got widespread recognition through his fantastic features. He also worked with producer Knxledge on their outstanding collab NxWorries project (full album also coming this year).

Enter 2016, Anderson .Paak’s breakout year. On Malibu, Paak proves himself as a phenomenal songwriter more than anything else. His ability to create infectious grooves as well as recount his own stories and experiences of growing up in his hometown Oxnard, California, are second to none. Highlights on the album are plentiful. From “The Waters” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid, produced by Madlib to the stunning “Silicon Valley” Anderson .Paak really came into his own. Malibu is phenomenal.
