Future Classic: Sampa The Great “The Great Mixtape”

Hip-Hop

Whenever I go on the road for some DJ dates, I always fill up the iPod Classic with all of the newest releases and other music on my daunting “to-listen” pile. After hours in airport and train station waiting lines there is always at least one release that jumps out of nowhere and becomes the record i’ll always associate with that trip.

The debut mixtape from Australia (by way of Zambia and Botswana) MC Sampa the Great is without a doubt one of my favorite discoveries of 2015, a find I owe to my good friend and talented producer Simbad who gave this to me while I was in London.

The Great Mixtape” is the result of the amazing collaboration between Australian producer Godriguez and Sampa. An instant classic reminiscent of Blu & Exile, Digable Planets, Lauryn Hill but also with the influence of fellow Aussies Hiatus Kaiyote.

Definitely in the running for strongest debut release of 2015!
