MIMS Guest Mix: Henry Keen (Maddjazz, London)

Soul & Funk Jazz

“I wanted to come up with a theme relating to my recent ’70’s Baby’ release on Maddjazz Recordings.”

“Initially I thought to do a mix of some of my favourite tunes from the 1970s, but in the end decided that was such a wide scope to pick from and wanted to narrow it down a bit, so I settled on a mix of tunes released in 1978, the year of my birth. It was actually really fun to dig through my records, listening as I went along, whilst imagining myself as a baby and trying to visualize what was going on in the world at that time.

My choices were defined by what I had in my collection, and amazingly I found strange 1978 sized gaps in the discographies of some of my favourite artists! The result is a mixture of some great Jazz/Funk/Fusion tracks, records I bought whilst digging for samples and a healthy dose of Jamaican and Brazilian heat.” -Henry Keen
