My Favorite Things

MY FAVORITE THINGS – Show #18 w/ Jeff Lennon (Lisboa) (Hosted by Psycut)

Jazz

Hi everybody, It’s a real pleasure to be back with you with this new number of « My Favorite Things ». As Usual I have selected for you some of the deepest Jazz Tracks recently released like this « Inward Flight » by The Nat Birchall Quartet, from his fantastic tribute LP to Yussef Lateef. The Soul Surfers have made an other great cover with the legendary « Summer Madness » from Kool and the Gang.
I’m sure you will enjoy « Yardley Suite », previously track from the next Ruby Rushton’s Record, such a bomb !!!

I love 70’s fusion Jazz with an exotic feeling like the beautiful gliding « Mulher Rendeira » and the killer John Coltrane’s cover « Giant Steps » by Gary Bartz.

Broken Beat is definitely the last style I really love from the Club Jazz Culture and Dego and Kaidi Tatham are still on the top since early 2000 ’s, producing years after years great tracks. Their last production are so amazing !!!

The second part of the show is a great mix done by my friend Jeff Lennon, a parisien born, living in Lisboa (Portugal). This amazing world digger (follow his lovely pics on his instagram), Boogie Funk and Hip Hop Old School Collector, has made for Music is my Sanctuary a great and rare Hard Bop, Soul Jazz and Jazz Funk Mix.

This one is like a biography including the Stunning « Jeannine » by master Donald Byrd, a live version of « It don’t mean a thing » by Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington recorded in … Paris and the killer Jazz Funk «Mystic Mariner » from the underrated LP of Phyrework !!! Jeff has played 3 greats Latin Jazz Nuggets with « Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers – Heat », « Willie Bobo – I wish it would rain » and « Cal Tjader – Mamblues ». Like all the good parisien Rare Grooves DJ’s, he has chosen some great Jazz Funk tracks including « Charles Kynard – Zebra Walk », « Gabor Szabo – Ziggidy zag » and the London Jazz Classic « Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones – Black Whip ». The End is the Acid Jazz hip Hop Classic « Loogin » from the firs Jazzmatazz Opus, where Guru has a special guest : « Donald Byrd ».
