Today’s episode is a special one. We’re having a discussion with Alex Coles, author of a brand-new book that charts the history and impact of jazz fusion, using key songs to trace its 50-year evolution and contributions to Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic music and more.
The central idea from the book that really stood out to me is that Fusion should be viewed as a “process” rather than a genre. In the last 50 years, this process of exploration and collaboration between genres, cultures, generations and production techniques has contributed so much to contemporary music.
Alex is a London-based art, design and music writer, critic and also a senior editor at the fabulous Sternberg Press publishing house. His latest title “Fusion” available now in the UK and early March in North America.
