Forgotten Treasures

Forgotten Treasure: Nu Colours “Special Kind Of Lover” Fire Island Nu-Samba Remix (1996)

House / Techno

Nu Colours was one of the premium R&B group coming from the UK back in the 90’s.

Their vocal delivery was strongly influenced by the Gospel roots and they had that authentic American Soul feel to their music. On the House tip, they were always coming correct with remixes from E-Smoove, Masters At Work or Fire Island in this case.

Fire Island are in fact Pete Heller and Terry Farley of Junior Boy’s Own fame. They absolutely created a masterpiece with this remix. When this came out in 1996, the production team were a bit more on a harder sound since the late 1994. They totally flipped the script here creating a thumping symphony of soul. This 11 minutes ride starts out on a mellow yet bumping full on garage stormer in which the original voices totally shines through.

Then, midway, after all the mesmerizing vocals, things cool down and a break comes in, taking the song to a whole other level. An explosion of percussions appears out of nowhere bringing us into a strong Batucada Samba frenzy. This madness keeps going for the remaining of the track, making this a perfect record for working the dancefloor. An absolute anthem for me!
