Forgotten Treasures

Forgotten Treasure: The Return “New Day” (1999)

House / Techno

Definition of a Forgotten Treasure right here: a completely overlooked late 90’s gem on 4th Floor Records and produced by Jose “Choco” Reynoso under the “The Return” moniker.

When covering Forgotten Treasure records, we have a soft spot for artists or projects that only saw one release, but an amazing one. The Return only produced one 12″ and the song we are talking about here is actually the B-side. Bonus points for that too.

At the time as I was working at the infamous Inbeat Records in Montreal (1987-2008) and was actually getting my hours paid in records, like a true wax fiend. This is one example of a record that I discovered because of the shop and would probably have missed otherwise.

A timeless deep house record that I’ve played many many times in the past 10+ years and always gets people rushing the booth for a track ID!

About Jose "Choco" Reynoso

New York house producer in close assosiation with the label Groovin’ Records. House production is more his part-time work, as he normally is a engineer and remixer in the Hip-Hop scene. Started his career with keyboard sessions for Kurtis Blow.

Over the 90’s he has collaborated with Wu-Tang Clan, Guru, and even Rage Against The Machine. His house music production started in the early 90’s, and he produced several tracks for the Groovin’ records label among others. But most notably for his wife Michelle Weeks with the underground classic Follow Your Dreams.
