Future Classic: The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band “Bacao Suave/Round & Round”

Soul

Truth & Soul Records frontman, DJ Akalepse, is back with another release on his offshoot label, Plane Jane Records. This time around he’s pushing the tropical steel drum sounds of Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band.

You might remember the band from their cover version of 50 Cent’s “Pimp” back in 2008. The track became so popular that many had thought 50 Cent had pulled the sample from the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band record, and not realizing that it was a cover version of the popular club track. Either way, the 45 garners quite the price tag these days amongst DJ’s and collectors alike.

The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band dig a little deeper with their signature steel drum funk on this new release; first up on the A Side, they tackle the late great J Dilla’s classic “Rico Suave” from his Welcome To Detroit album. On the B Side, they get down and dirty with a solid rendition of Hi-Tek’s “Round & Round”, which heads will remember as one of the more popular cuts from his Hi-Teknology album.

Both the A Side, “Bacao Suave”, and the B Side, “Round & Round’, are heavy on the drums with the steel pans playing though out the melodies. You can be sure that both cuts will ignite any dance floor; the perfect tunes for any hot summer night.

Stay tuned for the upcoming full length album “55” dropping soon on Brooklyn’s finest, Truth & Soul Records

Oh and in case you’ve never heard their “P.I.M.P” version from a few years ago, here it is.
