Future Classic: Benny Sings “Studio”

Soul

It looks like the fine folks at Jakarta Records have been saving some gems and will be finishing 2015 with a bang with three highly anticipated album releases. In the next few weeks they will be introducing the upcoming LP’s for Ivan Ave and Fred Fades, Bluestaeb, an EP from Olivier St-Louis and a highly anticipated record from German vocalist/producer/musician Benny Sings.

For many years now, songs from Benny Sings have been a mainstay in my DJ sets and radio shows. I can’t count the amount of times where people have come to the booth and ask what was playing. Inspired by the work of Chet Baker, D’Angelo, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder this veteran of the 2000’s indie soul/beats has been doing his thing without resorting to gimicks or depending on cover versions to make his name. For anyone who might not be too familiar, we highly recommend this “best of Benny Sings” compilation.

“Studio” will be Benny Sings’ 5th album and first for Jakarta (also based in Germany) one of the mightiest small labels. It will feature guest appearances by Mayer Hawthorne and Goldlink.
