Future Classic: Rüf Dug “Island”

House / Techno

After years of running his mysterious and sought after series known as the RÜF KUTZ bootleg 12′ vinyl records, the Manchester-based RÜF DUG is releasing his debut LP on Denmark’s Music For Dreams.

Although “Island” is a melting pot of genres and influences you would definitely be tempted to file it under Balearica, the kind of music i’m not typically drawn to probably because being based in Montreal, Canada I only get 2 months of Balearic-worthy weather. Although i’m not an expert in the genre I can tell you without any question that “Island” might be the most impressive debut of the year!

Apparently the back story of the record is: “Music For Dreams label founder Kenneth Bager asked the Manchester-based producer to record a debut album for the label. Ruf Dug agreed and promptly jetted off to the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe to record it. He apparently took with him two synthesizers, a couple of effects units, his laptop and a four-track cassette recorder. Over the course of 12 weeks, he recorded the album in a rented villa, presumably stopping for long walks at sunrise, skinny-dipping at sunset, and rum-based cocktails at night.”

Play this one on a beautiful sunny afternoon!
