Future Classic: SiR “Seven Sundays”

Soul

I get so mad at myself when I let great releases fly right under my nose to only realize a few weeks later that i’ve been caught snoozing! That is the downside of having a 1000 of music releases a week vs about 50 a week (all styles combined) in the pre-internet days.

Well, here is my Mea Culpa of the month: I have been sleeping big time on “Seven Sundays” the first album by California-native R&B artist who goes by the name SiR. The album is released on Portland’s Fresh Selects, perhaps the best independent soul label right now (check out the great last few releases, by Dolphin, Coultrain, Low Leaf)

After countless years behind the scenes writing for Jill Scott, Melanie Fiona, Robert Glasper, Bilal and others, SiR is finally ready to step into the forefront armed with production from Knxwledge (Stones Throw, To Pimp A Butterfly), Chris Dave (drummer for D’Angelo), Iman Omari, Tiffany Gouche and others. “Seven Sundays” also features a guest appearance from Anderson Paak.

Produced by Knxwledge (tracks 1, 2, 13); Tiffany Gouché (3); DK The Punisher (4, 14); J.LBS (5, 6, 7, 12); Chris Dave (8); Alvin Isaacs II (9); Iman Omari (10); and SiR (11).
