Full Bio

The Jazz Amnesty Sound System (a.k.a. J.A.S.S.) are a couple of deep jazz heads from Montreal named Andy Williams & sweet daddy luv. Their credentials as disc jockeys and musical curators are expansive and stretch way back into the 20th century.

Andy Williams has been schooling cats behind the decks for over 3 decades and continues to surprise and educate the masses on what constitutes a good groove. With over 20 years in radio, regular worldwide touring stints, sharing the stage with like-minded critically acclaimed diggers (Mr. Scruff, Quantic, Keb Darge, Nickodemus, Rainer Trueby, Bugz in the Attic, etc.) and holding down The Goods (one of Montreal’s best club nights and radio show) for 10 years; there is no denying that Andy Williams comes prepared to knock it out the park every time. Add to this his curatorial duties on the Public Transit Recordings jazz compilations Variations In Time : A Jazz Perspective and Monk Swing as well as being a composer in his own right and you have one well versed jazz man.

sweet daddy luv came onto the dj scene in 1994 and has since spun at a zillion parties, including many club residencies (most recently SYNTAX ERA). luv branched off and has released his own productions (Identification, The Dorkestra), co-ran the label C0C0S0L1DC1T1, was one third of the band The Nanobot Auxiliary Ballet, and has performed live and spun all over North America, Europe and Australia (with the likes of Amon Tobin, Caribou, Nightmares On Wax, Coldcut, Autechre, Derrick Carter, etc.). All the while dedicating 12 years to helping run North American operations for the mighty Ninja Tune (including sister labels Big Dada and Counter Records). sweet daddy luv continues to come correct from deep within his Record Canyon with his latest endeavor, www.djluvsrecords.com, where he puts up weekly dj mixes of various genres, eras and styles for the people.

Together as the Jazz Amnesty Sound System Andy & luv have already made a name for themselves with appearances at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (3 nights in a row), Ottawa Jazz Fest, Festival du Jazz de Quebec, the Suoni per il Popolo, Pop Montreal, Piknic Electronik and the L’Off Jazz Festival in Montreal. Add to this one off’s in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Quebec City and the launch of their Living Inside Jazz museum series at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and you have a couple of busy djs spreading the gospel of jazz.
