MIMS Guest Mix: GABRIEL OLAFS (Reykjavík, Iceland / OLI Records)

Ambient Classical

Since listening to Gabríel Ólafs‘ “Piano Works” released earlier this summer, we have become big fans of the Icelandic pianist and composer’s uniquely touching music. We also recently premiered a track from his upcoming “Absent Minded Reworks” remix project.

We wanted to know about the influences that have guided his sound up to now. He shared with us this wonderful deep listening session.

@GabrielOlafs: “I’ve been listening to a lot of music that “stands still” lately. For MIMS I wanted to make a mix of contemplative instrumental music that I love from Iceland and also the rest of the world.

Since I’m currently releasing my first reworked record I wanted to include some of my favourite reworked pieces as well as artists I personally worked with on my upcoming release. Some of it is static and drone-like while some of it is melodic and straightforward. Hope you’re able to sit back, enjoy and think about things.”
