Waajeed’s Multifaceted Approach To The Detroit Sound

Hailing from Conant Gardens Detroit, Waajeed’s productions through the years have been known as both inventive and genre-defying. Of recent years and with a more dance floor orientated mindset, Waajeed launched Dirt Tech Records as well as collaborating with many hometown legends like Carl Craig, Mad Mike, and Theo Parrish. He is also a mentor for the newest generation of Detroit talents like Kyle Hall, Jay Daniel, and Jon Dixon.

We had the pleasure of having a discussion on his relationship to electronic music in Detroit growing up and the process of finding his voice and original take on dance-floor music. We also talked about his very first DJ gig with a very young Dilla, and his work ethic and the inspiration behind his latest EP titled “Mother” (out on Carl Craig’s Planet E).

Originally recorded for our bi-monthly MIMS Radio show, presented by Montreal’s Phi Centre.
