Future Classic: JuJu Rogers “Hungry” (Production by Bluestaeb)

Hip-Hop

It’s incredible how much free quality music we have access to these days. Case in point, the new compilation on Jakarta records titled “Summer in Jakarta“. The project is full of goodies by great artists like Ta-Ku, Suff Daddy or IAMNOBODI. But my favorite track comes from an emcee I hadn’t heard of before, Germany’s JuJu Rogers.

As much as I am open to discovering hip hop artists from around the world, sometimes the different language or accent prevents me from fully appreciating the music. It is not the case at all this time around, JuJu rides the beat in English with his precise flow in a way that a lot of North American based emcees should envy!

But let’s talk about a big part of the appeal of “Hungry”, the banging beat with a 90’s feel provided by a producer named Bluestaeb. I’ve discovered the German beatmaker a couple of months ago when he did an impressive revision of the classic “One love” instrumental from the celebrated “Illmatic” album by Nas. As I rummage through his soundcloud, it’s easy to see that he’s got a lot of love for the golden age of hip hop, although some of his productions have a more futuristic twist. But on this one, his dirty drums bring us back straight to the boom bap era, and I’m not complaining!

Those two guys fit together like bread and butter, let’s hope a lot more music is on the way from the duo!

Kramos

Since his parents bought him a used "Pyramid" mixer more than 20 years ago, Kramos has always been a fiend to discover new music in every format possible and put mixes together. His first love was hip hop, but his tastes are now more eclectic than ever. The monthly show "Fresh Taste" with his friend MC Tank Pumpin' is proof of that.
