Future Classic: Les Gens d’Airs “Sous-Estimés EP”

Hip-Hop

Hard hitting Montreal producer ElCotola is back joining forces with Quebec spitter Aspect Mendoza to release Les Gens d’Airs‘ introductory Sous-Estimes EP which is a preview to an upcoming full album. Similar to Cotola’s collabo with Obia (link) this is not throwaway mixtape tracks, instead its a solid effort that stands on its own and brings Cotola’s beats in a different musical space.

Anyone who’s followed Aspect Mendoza these past years will be familiar with the social themes and hardship narrations he brings to the table and will be well served here. What I;ve always respected with Cotola’s projects is the commentary never feels preachy instead it makes one stop and think just like the complexity of the rhyme schemes. However, for me, Cotola’s beats shine brightest in this project. The dreamy Tout le monde s’en fout is a perfect track to vibe to and balances out the more grimy A longue, as always Cotola stays consistant and his sound quality standards are very high.

While the beats are less futuristics than his last efforts, I am very excited to hear from him that he will be heading in more of a Bolero/Latin Soul type direction soon and happy to see him grab the mic with even more confidence. The graphic, design, the mastering, the producing, another top quality output from Soltec that deserves your support!
