Forgotten Treasure: Sivuca “Ain’t No Sunshine” (1973)

Sivuca - Ain't No Sunshine

Another forgotten treasure recovered from the 24 Hour vinyl marathon we did last week. This one is from our good homie Tronald Trump. He played the mid day set and had the studio and the chat room vibing the whole time! Tons of great Stones Throw / Doom type of stuff but then he finished off with some great rare groove soulful gems.

This one especially caught our ear. A great brazilian cover of Bill Withers‘ first hit record. I didn’t know anything about Sivuca – apparently one of the most well known Brazilian Jazz musicians – but this one definitely got my attention and i’ll be going deeper into his work!

Great! I’ve been looking for this for years. I originally heard it on radio in the mid-80s and bought it on an EP, then sold it when I switched to CDs – couldn’t quite remember the artists name (kept thinking it was Sambooka or Zambooka). Now 30 years later it still sounds wonderful and just as I remember it.
    Thanks, James
