Forgotten Treasure: Sa-Ra Creative Partners “Rosebuds” (2004)

Soul

It’s a little hard to believe that this came out almost 10 years ago!

Sa-Ra Creative Partners from Los Angeles, California were definitely a few years before their time. 2004 might not seem that far away but Sa-Ra were at the forefront of the future (not to be confused with neo) soul movement with people like Spacek. In 2004 there was still very little room on record labels to push this kind of sound; especially the trio whose names is obviously inspired by free jazz genius Sun Ra.

Sa-Ra = Om’Mas Keith, Taz Arnold, and Shafiq Husayn, all of which have made solo and collaborations with others.

“Rosebuds” was released as the B side to cult hit “Glorious” and I still remember buying it when it came out and it not fiting in any of my sets because there was so little stuff that sounded like it.

Almost 10 years later, lots of others have finally caught up and I can play it in all my sets 😉 – It was featured in the MIMS 4th year anniversary mix.
