Future Classic: Monk-E “Le seul chemin”

Hip-Hop

Monk-E has been on the scene for a minute and recently gained notoriety as the Canadian champion in the End of the Weak MC competition. A deadly pengame has always been the major characteristic for the MTL spitter, however his artistic expression has always extended beyond rhymes as he is an accomplished graffiti artist and hugely involved in his community both at home and abroad. All things aside an artist is judged on his product and with his new album Initiatique Monk-E and producer Smile (K6A !?!) have found the perfect balance. The one MC one producer has formula works wonders when its done right and Monk-E has shown growth in his ability to convey a message and complex rhymes with ease.

The lead single ‘Le Seul Chemin‘ is a prime example as it delivers a powerful message about social media while maintaining a catchy hook. The track is full of rewind moments and multi-syllabic acrobatics but it can be absorbed just as easily in one listen. Smile is also known for his complex and experimental production yet the restraint he shows complements the lyrics perfectly. If this is a sign of things to come, then Monk-E has really come into his own and he is about to release an extremely original yet relatable album. (Initiatique available April 24th)
