Daedelus Marches Forward Unfettered

We were happy to have Daedelus on the phone for S02E07 of MIMS Radio to discuss his 19th album “Taut” and to talk about the positives and negatives present in the landscape of today’s music industry.

For those who are less familiar with Daedelus, he is widely known as one of the founding figures of the LA Beat Scene, regularly playing at the famous LA club night Low End Theory alongside people like Flying Lotus, Daddy Kev, Nosaj Thing, Samiyam, and so many others. His brand new album “Taut” not only makes reference to the literal meaning of keeping instruments in tune with proper tension, but also draws comparisons to the music industry as a whole, having to keep things tight and secure in order to survive and stay afloat. In the discussion, he gives some great insight into what it means to be a musician today and what tools exist to aid in the process of being successful.

“I want this record to be something you can just put on and vibe out to, but also be able to very consciously deal with more internal issues through metaphors in the music.”
